Constructed of solid steel, it features first quality steel tubing of 1'' 3/4 and screw-handle for simple assembly. First, the box was half shredded when it was delivered. The only thing holding it together was lots of packing tape and there was a huge, huge hole ripped out of the cardboard. Second, there were two small pieces missing--and not because of the aforementioned hole (all the nuts and bolts bits come in a smaller bag inside the box). The missing pieces must have been a packing error but it in no way affects the stability of the stand. I really like the adjustable-ness to cater to different hammock sizes, and it feels sturdy when you're relaxing. It didn't take too long to place together either. My only problems were with the dreadful condition of the box and the small missing bits.
